On Recital Day

Eat a Healthy Meal: Fuel up with a nutritious breakfast.
Stay Hydrated.
Keep It Mellow: Avoid excessive activities; enjoy dressing up and listening to others.
Keep Nails Short: Trim nails, and no false nails for ladies.
Don’t Practice Excessively: Review your piece to prepare, but avoid overdoing it.
Pack Essentials:  Bring your music, a water bottle, and a small snack.
Dress Comfortably:  Choose something that makes you feel good and is appropriate for the occasion.
Wash Your Hands:  Restrooms are available on-site.
Get Your Music Score Ready: Focus on your performance piece.
Stay Calm and Collected:
Take deep breaths to help ease nerves. Remember, it’s okay to feel a little anxious; many performers do!
Play with Passion and Expression.

Visualise Success: Look forward to your turn and enjoy the performance!
Respect the venue and the grand piano
Be Attentive: Listen during others’ performances and show appreciation with applause!

FOR PARENTS:

Encourage Your Child:
And remind them of their hard work. Provide positive reinforcement
Arrive Early: Get to the venue ahead of time for good seating and to help your child settle in.
Create a Calm Environment: Focus on the positives; avoid discussing performance anxiety or mistakes.
Minimise Noise: Stay quiet to avoid distractions during performances.
Paparazzi Parent Seats: 2x reserved seats for parents of performing students offer unobstructed views. Remember to tag @emi_piano_studio on Facebook and Instagram #EmiPianoStudio
Clapping: Refrain from clapping between pieces; applause is encouraged only after the performer has finished.
Leave Between Performances: If you need to leave for the restroom or outside, exit your seat only between performances.
Exit Discreetly: If you need to leave with a young child, do so quietly.
Please stay after your or your child's performance for the certificate ceremony and refreshments. Your support means a lot, and it encourages others to do the same!
Celebrate Afterward: Plan a small celebration to acknowledge your child’s hard work!
Personal Presence at the Piano is an integral part of a strong performance. Your audience not only hears you but also observes you. The following small details can make a significant difference in how you carry yourself and how the audience perceives you.

At the Piano

Walk calmly to the piano. No running!

Approach the bench: Walk up to the bench and stand in front of it.

Place your music sheet on the piano: Position it neatly for easy access.

Take a Bow: Bend gently at the waist, keeping your back straight, with hands at your sides or in front. Bowing nicely takes practice!

Count up to six: Three counts while bowing down and hold that bow (looking at your shoes) and three counts as you rise back up.

Enter the bench from the side: Sit on the side furthest from the audience - avoid entering from the front or climbing over the top.

Adjust your bench: Set the bench to the correct height and center it on Middle C.

Position yourself: Sit up straight, take a deep breath, and smile.

Hands in your lap: Place your hands in your lap before you begin.

Visually check starting hand positions: Look at your right and left hand starting positions on the keys.

Visualise the music: Mentally run through the piece, starting when you're ready.

Lift your hands in a rainbow motion: Gently raise your hands and place them on the keys.

Play slowly and steadily: Don’t rush; if you make a mistake, it’s okay, keep going!

Enjoy the performance: Your music is a gift - share it joyfully!

Hands in Your Lap After You Finish: Many piano students start to lift off the bench as they play the final note. Instead, take a moment to place your hands in your lap after you finish. This gives the audience a chance to truly relish the music they've just heard.

Take a Bow:
Stand in front of the bench, and bow again to the audience.

Collect your music sheet from the piano.

Walk Calmly Away: You did it!

Note: Stay centered on the bench, avoid sliding your hips or swinging your feet. Keep a pleasant expression, even if you make a mistake.
